How to fix a Bambu Lab printer that appears offline in Printer Tools

by FixoLab

When a Bambu Lab printer appears offline in Printer Tools, start with the local path between the app and the printer. Removing the printer or reinstalling the app too early can erase useful context without changing the router, address or printer setting that caused the failure.

The quickest diagnosis is to determine whether the whole printer connection is offline or only one feature, such as the camera.

Identify what is actually offline

Open the printer dashboard and note which data still changes:

  • if status, temperatures and progress are stale, investigate the MQTT connection and network path;
  • if telemetry works but Live View fails, investigate LAN Only Liveview, camera reachability and the model-specific camera port;
  • if files fail while telemetry works, investigate the separate FTPS path and current credentials;
  • if only access away from home fails, test again on the same local network before changing the printer.

Different features use different local services. A camera-only failure does not mean the printer entry is completely broken.

Confirm power and the current IP address

Wake the printer and confirm that it is connected to the expected Wi-Fi or Ethernet network. Read the current IPv4 address from its touchscreen and compare it with the value saved in Printer Tools.

Routers commonly assign a different address after a restart, lease expiry or network change. Edit the saved printer if the address changed, then add a DHCP reservation so the new address remains stable.

Verify the serial number and LAN Access Code

Check the complete serial number and LAN Access Code against the printer. Firmware changes, resets or network reconfiguration can invalidate an old code. Retype the value if copy and paste may have introduced whitespace.

Do not confuse a cloud account credential with the local access code. Printer Tools connects with the values shown by the printer and does not need your Bambu password.

Check the local network path

The phone and printer do not have to use the same Wi-Fi band, but they must have a route between them. A 5 GHz phone can reach a 2.4 GHz printer when the router bridges both networks normally.

Problems arise with guest Wi-Fi, access-point client isolation, separate VLANs, firewall rules or a VPN that replaces local routes. Put both devices on the normal home LAN for a control test. If that works, repair the network policy rather than repeatedly adding the printer.

Test the camera separately

If telemetry returns but the stock camera remains offline, enable Settings > Network > LAN Only Liveview on the printer. Full LAN Only mode is not required.

Close and reopen Live View after changing the setting. Printer Tools detects the camera protocol from the model, so do not manually convert a native Bambu camera into an external-camera entry.

Reconnect after firmware updates

Restart Printer Tools after the printer finishes updating and has returned to an idle, reachable state. Compare the IP and access code again. If the update changed a local permission, re-enable LAN Only Liveview.

Avoid power-cycling a printer during its firmware process. Wait for the printer to complete its own recovery instructions.

Collect a useful diagnostic log

If the connection still fails, reproduce it once and immediately export the encrypted Printer Tools logs. Include the app version, platform, printer model, firmware version and whether MQTT, files and camera fail together or separately.

Never paste the LAN Access Code or an unredacted camera URL into chat. The guide how to collect and share Printer Tools logs safely explains the support package.

Frequently asked questions

Should I delete and add the printer again?

Only after verifying the current IP, serial and code. Editing one changed value is usually more informative and faster.

Can 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz devices communicate?

Yes, when the router bridges both bands on the same LAN. Band choice alone is not the problem.

Why is only the camera offline?

The camera uses a separate service. Enable LAN Only Liveview and check the camera path without discarding working telemetry.

Does Printer Tools require Bambu Cloud?

No for the local connection. The printer may remain connected to Bambu Cloud so Bambu Handy continues to work.
