
How to connect PrusaLink to Printer Tools over your local network

Printer Tools connects directly to PrusaLink on your local network. Add the printer with its IP address and PrusaLink credential, then Printer Tools checks whether that installation uses an API key or HTTP authentication. You do not need a Prusa Connect account or an internet connection for local monitoring.

PrusaLink and Prusa Connect are different
PrusaLink is the local service running on the printer or on its dedicated Raspberry Pi setup. Prusa Connect is Prusa’s separate cloud service. Printer Tools uses PrusaLink for this connection, so your local status, files and controls do not need to pass through Prusa Connect.
The CORE One family, XL, MK4 and MK4S, MK3.9 and MK3.9S, and MK3.5 and MK3.5S include PrusaLink. Prusa also provides PrusaLink for MINI and MINI+ and for the MK3 and MK2.5 families through a compatible Raspberry Pi installation. The exact data and actions available in Printer Tools still depend on the PrusaLink API exposed by the installed firmware.
Connect PrusaLink to Printer Tools
1. Open the PrusaLink network settings
Connect the printer to your local network and open its PrusaLink settings. On current printers, note the IP address and PrusaLink API key. On a Raspberry Pi installation, use the HTTP username and password configured in PrusaLink. Printer Tools starts the username field with maker, but you should replace it if your installation uses a different value.
2. Check that PrusaLink opens locally
From a device on the same network, open the printer’s local IP address in a browser. Confirm that the PrusaLink page loads. If it requests an HTTP login, confirm that the username and password work there before adding the printer to Printer Tools.
3. Add a PrusaLink printer
In Printer Tools, open Settings, choose Printers and select Add Prusa Link. Enter a clear printer name and the local IP address. In the password field, enter the API key for a current built-in installation or the HTTP password for a Raspberry Pi installation. Keep maker as the username only when that is the username used by your PrusaLink setup.
4. Let Printer Tools verify the connection
Printer Tools checks the usual local PrusaLink addresses, tries the supplied value as an API key and falls back to HTTP authentication when needed. Keep the phone, tablet or computer on the same network until the printer is saved.
5. Verify the dashboard and files
Open the printer from the Dashboard. Confirm that status, temperatures, progress and the current job appear, then open Files to make sure Printer Tools can read the storage exposed by PrusaLink.

- Current job, elapsed time, remaining time and model thumbnail when available
- Z position, speed, flow and fan telemetry when the firmware reports them
- Material information when PrusaLink exposes it, without dedicated spool inventory or MMU management

The model image shown in the dashboard is the thumbnail for the current job. Printer Tools does not currently treat PrusaLink as a generic live webcam source. Camera services configured for Prusa Connect are separate from this local Printer Tools connection.
Authentication options
Printer Tools first checks whether the supplied credential works as an API key. If that PrusaLink installation uses HTTP authentication instead, the app falls back to the configured username and password. Raspberry Pi installations commonly prefer HTTP Digest authentication, while current built-in printer firmware usually provides a PrusaLink API key.
You only need to enter the credentials shown by your printer. Do not expose PrusaLink directly to the internet and do not reuse an important account password.
Common connection problems
Printer Tools cannot reach PrusaLink
Check that the IP address is still current and that the devices are on the same network. Guest Wi-Fi, client isolation and VLAN firewall rules can block local access even when both devices have internet access.
The credentials are rejected
Re-enter the PrusaLink password without extra spaces and confirm the HTTP username. Try maker only when you have not configured a different username. The Prusa Connect account password is not the PrusaLink password.
The browser works but Printer Tools does not connect
Update Printer Tools and the printer firmware, then retry. Printer Tools checks the common PrusaLink ports automatically, but a reverse proxy, unusual port mapping or modified PrusaLink installation can prevent automatic detection.
Files return an authorization error
Confirm that the same credentials can open the file area in the local PrusaLink interface. Some firmware versions expose telemetry successfully while applying different permissions to storage or job actions.
The model thumbnail is missing
Not every file or firmware version provides a thumbnail reference. Start a sliced file that includes a preview and reopen the printer after PrusaLink has loaded the current job metadata.
Access PrusaLink away from home
Use a VPN back to the printer network or add OctoEverywhere to a compatible PrusaLink connection. Do not forward PrusaLink ports directly from your router to the public internet.

Does Printer Tools show the Prusa camera
The PrusaLink dashboard currently shows the current job thumbnail rather than a generic live webcam. Prusa Connect camera services are not automatically imported into this local connection.
